The Board of Directors of the Seychelles Ports Authority (SPA) has announced the appointment of Captain Jean-Paul Fanchette as the new Harbour Master, effective from August 1, 2024.
Captain Fanchette’s journey to this role began in December 2022, when he was appointed as the Deputy Harbour Master. Over the past 20 months, he worked closely alongside his predecessor, collaboratively managing the Harbour Master’s Office. This period of mentorship and hands-on experience has seamlessly prepared Captain Fanchette for his new leadership role.
Captain Fanchette’s academic credentials are impressive. He earned both an Honours Degree and an Ordinary Degree in Nautical Science from the Cork Institute of Technology. Notably, he graduated with Distinction for his Honours Degree and First Class Honours for his Ordinary Degree, showcasing his academic excellence.
His maritime career began with the Seychelles Petroleum Company Ltd (SEYPEC), where he quickly ascended the ranks. Serving aboard various Seychelles and German tankers operating internationally, Captain Fanchette eventually achieved the prestigious position of captain. His tenure at SEYPEC was marked by numerous accomplishments, establishing him as a respected figure in the maritime industry.
In December 2022, after a distinguished career at sea, Captain Fanchette transitioned to a shore-based role with the Seychelles Ports Authority as Deputy Harbour Master. His exemplary achievements and leadership skills within SEYPEC have made him a well-regarded professional in the industry, and his experience is expected to bring continued success to the SPA.
