The Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan conducted a follow-up visit to the Port of Durban yesterday, 19 April 2022 to assess progress made in the past week in reviving operations.
The Minister was joined by the Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Ebrahim Patel, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in the province, Ravi Pillay, as well as the Chairperson for Economic Development and Planning at eThekwini Municipality, Thanduxolo Sabelo.
Following the heavy rains and flooding in Durban, the priority focus for the Transnet team has been emergency recovery and stabilisation of operations. The port has been operational since 13 April 2022 and the overall performance continues to improve, with strict monitoring in place.
