EMC Training and Skills beneficiaries graduate from the World Maritime University, Sweden.

Graduates from the PhD and Master of Science in Maritime Affairs programs attended the Class of 2022 graduation ceremony, which was held in Malmö, Sweden, on October 31, 2022. The Class of 2021 has received the education required to contribute to their countries relating to maritime and ocean matters and more broadly to the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

Yamkela Nhleko graduated with a MSc in Maritime Affairs, specialising in Maritime Education and Training (MET) and Sandile Dlamini obtained his Master of Science in Maritime Affairs specialising in Maritime Law and Policy. The former EMC interns have diligently applied themselves for the past 18 months to grow from the knowledge they had acquired while serving as interns.

“This is a huge achievement for the EThekwini Maritime Cluster in its 2030 vision of transforming KwaZulu’s Natal to being the center for maritime education. This comes at a time when the cluster is in the process of implementing a research department as part of growing EMC’s offering,” EMC Managing Director Ms. Zenzile Gwamanda.

Another notable recognition was that of the Transport Education Training Authority (TETA) CEO Ms Maphefo Anno-Frempong for her contribution in ensuring that the World Maritime University qualification is recognised by the South African Qualification Authority (SAQA).

Attending this prestigious event was dignitaries from more than 100 countries. On behalf of South Africa, the Deputy Minister of Transport Honourable Lydia Sindisiwe Chikungu, accompanied by the department’s Deputy Director General for Maritime Affairs Mr. Mthunzi Madiya.
