Dear stakeholders
It gives me great pleasure to welcome and introduce to you the EThekwini Maritime Cluster (EMC) June newsletter edition. In this month’s edition of the newsletter, a highlight of the EMC programmes will be unfolded.
Gratitude goes to all partners of the cluster who assisted in carrying out all programmes implemented during the 2022/2023 fiscal year. March 2023 saw the end of our financial year and hosting the Annual General meeting in June. It is always fulfilling to learn about the auditors’ reports and the announcement of clean audit reports. That is something we pride ourselves in and has been embodied as our core values to lead and implement all programmes in a transparent and non-malicious manner.
The month of June was yet another busy month for the EMC and the KZN Maritime stakeholder. We had the pleasure to host the Maritime Golf Lovers in a fundraising event aimed at raising funds for the implementation of our Training and Skills Unit Programmes. An amount of plus R36 000. 00 was raised during the occasion. We like to thank all stakeholders who supported the event. Without the sponsorships, the event was never going to be a success. I extend my invitation to you EMC partner to join the cluster at the next golf day event.
We are now looking forward to two upcoming Women’s Month (August). During this time the EMC Team implements a Women in Maritime Campaign with a focus on women who are maritime advocates.
EMC continues to facilitate collaborative engagements and prides itself on forming/building partnerships with maritime industry stakeholders to work together in growing the maritime industry. Since the month of June celebrates youth month, EMC partnered with several stakeholders including AMSOL, TNPA, and DUT to host a campaign exposing the youth to the port of Durban and the different career opportunities. Individuals have limited knowledge of the different career opportunities. You find that even the maritime graduates who have completed their maritime qualifications struggle exploring the different streams in which to penetrate the industry. The industry promotion unit was active in capturing and reporting on the campaign across all social media platforms.
To all our stakeholders your provision has been focal to all EMC programmes.
With our newsletters, we seek to cover all key industry events, including all new EMC projects that have been introduced over the previous month. We hope you’ll enjoy and find this issue fascinating.
Your feedback on any of our stories would be highly appreciated.
May you have a joyful and pleasant every day.
