A farewell ceremony was conducted at the Royal Yacht Club on November 30, 2022, for Vuyisile Jaca, one of Sail Africa’s instructors, who will depart South Africa on December 1 to join the other crew members who are participating in the Maiden Factor leg in Senegal Dakar. Vuyi will be on a boat with her team sailing from Dakar to Cape Town.
A hamper including some of the sailing supplies Vuyisile will require for the duration of her race was put together by the EThekwini Maritime Cluster (EMC).
EMC is honoured to support Vuyisile with the travel plans and contribute to the Maiden Factor Foundations’ goal, of being a Global Ambassador for the Empowerment of Girls through Education.
The Maiden Factor Foundation’s world tour works with, raises funds for, and supports communities to enable girls into education and empower and support them to remain throughout their teenage years to reach their full potential and create better futures for all.
Ms. Nomalanga Sokhela, a representative of the EThekwini Maritime Cluster and EThekwini Municipality’s Economic Development Unit, was present to convey Vuyisile’s hamper. In conjunction with various high schools, tertiary institutions, and marine graduates, EThekwini Maritime Cluster collaborates with Sail Africa to conduct development programs through sailing, swimming, and rowing.
