EThekwini Maritime Cluster projected to successfully integrate the organizations objectives and strategically aligned its mission with the programme implemented during the 2021/2022 AGM Meeting
On 2June 2022, EMC invited all its stakeholders to the Royal Hotel in Durban for the 2022 Annual General Meeting.
EMC hosted a successful AGM that was inclusive of the breakdown of EMC’s ongoing projects as well as highlights that the cluster has accomplished during 2021/2022 financial year, presented in the form of a video. The Annual Financial Statement presented an unqualified audit report. The agenda of the meeting was delivered by EMC’s Chairperson Mr Hans Modipane as he officially welcomed the attendees of the meeting and set forth to proceed with the agenda of the day.
“The government continues to prioritize the sector in reassuring that they continue to focus and invest in the area which will aid job creation. EMC was established 13 years ago to spearhead the industry and serve as a platform for collaborative engagement through the implementation of programmes of common interest, specifically for growth in the industry, improving performance in the sector dealing with issues around inefficiency and engaging with the sector to formulate solutions to improve our global competitiveness” highlighted Mr Modipane before beginning with the itineraries on the programme.
This fiscal financial statement for year 2021/2022 presented by NM&NM Accountants, indicated a positive expenditure from the previous year’s financial statement to this year’s financial statement. Despite the unforeseen pandemic, looting and humanitarian disaster caused by the devastating floods, EMC still managed to successfully implement all programmes.
Some of the beneficiaries were under some of EMC programmes were present to share their testimonies on being part of the programmes and how the programmes helped them obtain permanent placement into the companies they were training under. This was all possible through collaborations and funding revied from sponsors.
In line with the board charter EMC has appointed Mr Emmanual Ntshangase to contribute his expertise from the field into managing the four pillars at EMC namely enterprise development, training and skills development, boat building and marine manufacturing; and industry promotion.
As the cluster continues to grow more valuable partnerships and collaborative engagements will be enforced to ensure maximum development in the City of Durban in alignment with the national policies. “The cluster will continue to align with our objectives by developing human resources through education, skills development and training, knowledge development and contributing towards the development and positioning of Durban as a Smart Port City; increase exposure and awareness in the maritime industry and the Port of Durban. Lastly, we are enhancing enterprise development through the promotion of small businesses and aligning with the UN sustainable goals as well as some of the national policies, and this is what the cluster driving in this financial year.” said Ms Gwamanda in closing.
