EThekwini Maritime Cluster Welcomes Strategic Investment in Port of Durban

In a significant boost to shipping operations at South Africa’s busiest port, the Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has introduced five new tugboats to the Port of Durban. This investment, valued at R1 billion, forms part of TNPA’s broader Marine Fleet Renewal Programme, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and supporting economic growth.

The christening ceremony, held yesterday at the Port of Durban, showcased TNPA’s commitment to maintaining a reliable marine fleet. These new tugboats are set to improve shipping turnaround times, ensuring that the port remains a critical hub for maritime activity in South Africa.

As part of the EThekwini Maritime Cluster’s mandate to support and advance the maritime sector in Durban, we commend TNPA for this proactive step. The addition of these assets not only strengthens port operations but also aligns with EMC’s vision of promoting economic development through enhanced maritime capabilities.

EMC will continue to collaborate closely with TNPA and other stakeholders to ensure that the Port of Durban remains competitive and capable of meeting the demands of global trade.
