Ocean Innovation Africa Summit Concludes with Strong Focus on Sustainable Ocean Economy

The Ocean Innovation Africa Summit has successfully wrapped up at the Durban ICC, following a programme of workshops, keynote addresses, PechaKucha presentations, and interactive feedback sessions.

The summit brought together industry leaders, innovators, and stakeholders from around the world to engage in critical discussions on ocean conservation and the responsible use of marine resources. Through a mix of thought leadership and practical engagement, participants explored solutions aimed at advancing a sustainable and resilient blue economy.

A key highlight of the summit was the diverse range of sessions, including fast-paced PechaKucha presentations, which enabled entrepreneurs to showcase innovative ideas in a concise and engaging format. Workshops and feedback sessions further created space for collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and strategies to address pressing ocean challenges.

The event underscored the need for collective action in protecting ocean ecosystems while unlocking economic opportunities in a sustainable manner – including the participation of coastal communities.

The eThekwini Maritime Cluster is appreciative to be part of the summit. We continue to support initiatives that balance economic growth with environmental sustainability, ensuring that the ocean economy contributes meaningfully to both current and future generations.

As the summit concludes, it has created a strengthened network of stakeholders and a shared vision for a more sustainable, innovative, and inclusive ocean economy in Africa.
