24/11/2022: Durban’s Sail Africa Youth Foundation was nominated at the Hollard Sports Industry Awards in Johannesburg and was selected as the winner for the Social and Environmental Impact Award category, among 267 entries across Africa in various categories.
Sail Africa Youth Development Foundation is a non-profit organisation with the core mandate geared towards introducing children to sailing in a fun way – lies in Durban and more specifically on the lawns of the Royal Natal Yacht Club and in the dinghy boat-yard and slipway of Durban’s Point Yacht Club.
With 4000 people attending the event Sail Africa had two entries and the EEE project won. The EEE project focuses on Equity Empowerment Education and Economic freedom for her youngsters through the medium of Sailing. Latterly an Environmental Awareness program the “Blue Thumbs” has been added to the E’s.
In a comment after the event, Jackie Bernard of Sail Africa said, ‘’ Sail Africa is humbled and thankful for being singled out this way and hopes to keep flying the sailing burgee high. Sail Africa is unique and opens up so many opportunities for youth through sailing.”
