The Welcome to the Water Campaign (Curriculum Enhancement) is an initiative by the EThekwini Maritime Cluster (EMC), focusing on high school learners in the eThekwini region. This annual program was hosted on 5 December 2023 and continued for the duration of 3 days, was a collaborative effort with SAIL AFRICA Youth Foundation.
Mr Zondo, EMC Training and Skill Officer attended the launch of the Welcome to the Water Campaign. He welcomed all the learners and shared some insight about the Campaign. The first day began with a safety lesson from the NSRI Officer.
The Welcome to the Water Campaign aims to achieve the following:
- Introduce young people to sailing as a leisure activity and a potential career.
- Provide fundamental swimming skills and water safety education, particularly targeting previously disadvantaged youth.
Participating schools included Esizibeni High School, Mandlenkosi High School and Umlazi Comtech High School.
The closing ceremony and the handing out of the certificates took place at the Point Yacht Club after the three days of the EMC Welcome to the Water Campaign. EMC Training and Skills Officer Mr Zondo attended the ceremony and congratulated all the learners that participated in the 2023 Welcome to the Water Campaign.
EThekwini Maritime Cluster also congratulates the learners who were part of this annual program. A special thanks to SAIL AFRICA and their excellent, experienced instructors for all the sessions and trainings they conducted with the learners.
