The eThekwini Maritime Cluster (EMC) recently met with the South African Maritime Safety Authority (SAMSA) to discuss means of working together to grow the maritime sector. The discussions focused on skills development, creating career opportunities, and opening more pathways for young people to enter the industry. The engagement highlighted the value of partnerships in promoting maritime awareness and supporting the growth of the sector.

Representatives from both organisations attended the engagement, including EMC Chief Executive Officer Mrs. Zenzile Gwamanda and Mr. Siphephelo Shange from Stakeholder Engagement and Corporate Affairs. SAMSA was represented by Communications Specialist for Corporate Affairs and International Relations Tebogo Ramatjie, Executive for Corporate Affairs, Government and International Relations Thulisile Mbuli, and Captain Thobela Gqabu.

The meeting was aimed at identifying areas of collaboration between the two organisations and strengthening ties within the maritime sector.

Discussions focused on maritime industry promotion, stakeholder engagement, awareness campaigns, and training and skills development programmes.

Both parties also explored opportunities for joint initiatives aimed at youth development, career awareness and broader industry promotion.

The engagement is expected to create a foundation for a stronger working relationship and a strategic partnership focused on advancing shared maritime development priorities.
