The eThekwini Maritime Cluster (EMC) is proud to have partnered with the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS), and the South African Association of Ship Operators and Agents South Africa Branch (SAASOA) to bring together industry leaders, and stakeholders for an evening of collaboration, camaraderie and celebration on Friday evening at the Durban International Convention Center (Durban ICC).

Established leaders in the maritime industry – Peter Besnard, CEO of SAASOA, Xolani Mbambo, CEO of Grindrod Ltd, and Master Mariner, Captain Brendon Hawley – were honoured at the event and inducted into the South African Shipping Hall of Fame – a special tribute to leaders who have built a lasting legacy in the sector.

Delivering the opening address for the evening, eThekwini Maritime Cluster Managing Director Zenzile Gwamanda said since its inception last year, the event has received overwhelming support.

“We were fully sold out, having hosted the event last year. The same goes for this year. Thank you for embracing this platform and for showing commitment to the growth of our sector,” the Managing Director said.

A key highlight of the Gala was the remarkable achievement of stakeholders collectively raising over R700 000 for the South African Police Service (SAPS) Education Trust Fund. The Trust was established to provide financial assistance to children of SAPS employees who die in the line of duty.
